Seats of History: A Tribute to Houston’s Wards Through Art

Leadership Houston’s Class XLIII unveiled its 2025 class project entitled “Seats of History: A Tribute to Houston’s Wards Through Art” in Johnny Goyen Park located at 1 N Milam St, Houston, TX 77002, adjacent to the University of Houston Downtown campus. Painted by students from Houston's Six Ward neighborhoods and Houston muralist EMPYRE, these benches are the culmination of a year-long project led by Leadership Houston, Class 43.  These benches will not just be places to rest – they are colorful symbols of community with paintings inspired by Houston’s youth. Each bench tells the stories and reflects the history of one of Houston’s six wards, connecting the past with the future in a way that encourages public engagement and appreciation for our city’s rich cultural tapestry.
