Carol Smith, Class XXVI

Carol Cockrell Smith is a native of Creole Louisiana. She is a fellow of the American Health Information Management Association (FAHIMA) which distinguishes professionals of earned recognition who made significant and sustained contributions to the profession. She is currently employed by KPMG, LLP as a healthcare consultant. Her healthcare tenure includes over 30 years of experience in health information management, clinical documentation improvement, information systems’ project management and systems implementation, coding and revenue cycle strategy and education of which 25 years at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.

Carol is a graduate of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette with a bachelor of degree and major in health information management; Our Lady of the Lake University, San Antonio Texas with a master in business administration major – healthcare administration.

She is an alum of Leadership Houston Class XXVI where her project focus was elderly care and living. She has volunteered at the Houston Women’s Center, Houston Food Bank, Houston Special Olympics, Fort Bend County Democratic Committee.
