Juanita Garner, Class XVIII, is a retiree of ConocoPhillips. She provided corporate strategic leadership for ConocoPhillips’ community outreach activities and special events. Following her retirement, Garner received her certification to teach English-as-a-second-language (ESL) and has taught classes to corporate executives and their families.
She is also the owner of NeedleWorks by Design, an embroidery company that provides machine embroidery to businesses and individuals.
Garner is very active in the Houston community and has served on the board of Leadership Houston for several years. She also served on the board of My Brother’s Keeper Outreach Center (MBKOC) since its inception. She volunteers to teach ESL and is currently developing an ESL program at MBKOC.
Since graduating from Leadership Houston in 2000, she continues to be an active and supportive member, serving on and chairing various committees including the Programs, Recruitment and Alumni Engagement committees, Dr. Thomas F. Freeman – “Leading Houstonian Award”, Leadership in Action Award, and the Passport to Progress program.
Garner fuels her passion for “developing potential in others” by creating ENGAGE! - a monthly column in Leadership Houston’s newsletter. She writes and encourages others to contribute articles that will develop and enhance leadership potential in alumni.
